I like Treehouse Toys. It's a bit claustrophobic and I kept bumping into various stuffed animals hanging from the ceiling, but this is because the place is stuffed with endless toys and goodies. I agree with Amy K., this is not a place for high-tech toys. The toys you find here are the kind that don't do the thinking and imagining for you, and that's the kind I like best. In fact I saw 3 different toys that would be perfect for 3 different yelpers. I'm not saying who because I don't want to embarrass anyone. Drop by Treehouse and see if you can figure it out.
Treehouse Toys is located in the Old Port area of downtown Portland, Maine on a fantastic little street with great shops and galleries. Stopped by the other day for a kite and left pleased as punch. Excellent selection and friendly employees. Tons of cool stuff. Definitely would recommend this business to others. Some street parking and a large parking structure in the next block...no worries.
A: “We try to make it a special day at the store. We always have game demonstrations, toy trivia, and a lot of interaction in a fun way with customers. We will have giveaways and a raffle at the end of the day. New this year, we will be offering the chance for a limited number of kids over the age of 8 to have the chance to become a TreeHouse toy tester. We will also have the famous caramel corn!”
You know that toy store in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York? Duncan's Toy Chest? That's what Treehouse Toys feels like to me.
It's a wonderland of beautiful, colorful, things to see and touch. It's well-organized, but things are also a bit scattered about in such a way that you experience all sorts of things no matter what part of the store you're in.
They have a wide variety of toys, dolls, puppets, books, board games, widgets, gizmos, and gags, for a broad age range, but it's all quality stuff. You can tell that it's curated with care.
All in all, it's one of the best toy stores I've ever been in, and one of my favorite store in Portland.
